Y-Warm is a next-generation flexible thermal insulation material independently developed by Beijing Y-Warm Technology Co., Ltd. Featuring a nano closed-cell structure, Y-Warm combines ultra-low thermal conductivity, excellent flexibility, and high breathability, successfully overcoming the long-standing challenge of traditional aerogels that are “too brittle to wear.” It is the world’s first insulation material applicable to textile.
Since its discovery in 1931, aerogels, a nanoporous material, have been recognized as one of the best thermal insulators known to science. However, their friability has limited their practical use for nearly a century. After eight years of dedicated research, the R&D team at Beijing Y-Warm Technology made a major breakthrough by enhancing the mechanical strength of aerogels, developing a nano closed-cell flexible thermal insulation material, named Y-Warm. In 2021, Y-Warm was introduced to the market, and its core technology has been granted international invention patent authorization.
Y-Warm features a wall thickness of 20–280 nanometers, pore size of 30–190 micrometers, over 95% closed-cell ratio, and 96% porosity. These characteristics allow it to maintain ultra-low thermal conductivity while achieving flexibility and breathability. The product has passed the EU SVHC safety test for 205 hazardous substances, making it the first insulation material in the world fully suitable for winter clothing applications.
According to Mr. Feipeng Zhong, CTO at Y-Warm Technology, the key principle of Y-Warm lies in blocking external cold air transmission while reducing human body heat loss. When inserted between a garment’s outer fabric and lining, it acts as a built-in insulation layer, allowing superior thermal performance even in lightweight apparel. In addition, its hydrophilic groups enable excellent moisture absorption, and its rapid evaporation ensures quick drying.
On a microscopic level, Y-Warm exhibits a honeycomb-like internal structure with a surface density of just 46 g/m² and a finished width of 150 cm. The material also provides antibacterial, far-infrared, and eco-friendly functions, and remains stable within a temperature range from -50°C to 150°C. Today, Y-Warm is being widely applied in clothing, outdoor gear, automotive interiors, high-speed trains, aircraft cabins, and building insulation, and is hailed as a revolutionary innovation reshaping the global insulation material industry.
